Personalise your resume for the job<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n When fishing, you want to use bait to catch a particular fish. Similarly, in a job application, your resume is the bait to get the job. Tailor your resume to match the job that you\u2019re applying for. You should list relevant experience and skills matching the job description. This demonstrates that you understand clearly what is expected of you in the role, and makes your resume more attractive to the hiring manager.<\/p>\n Include important keywords to indicate competencies that you possess and check if it matches up to the job description. You can also use industry jargon that is specific to your job scope. Modern recruitment systems and head-hunters are trained to keep a lookout for keywords. Having these keywords will help you stand out.<\/p>\n Keep it simple<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n There are usually scores of people applying for a job, which means the hiring manager has tons of CVs to vet. Keep your CV short and concise. We recommend no more than 2 pages. If you have a lot to say, save it for the interview! Sending up a 6-page CV makes one look lazy and uninterested in the job. Recruiters or hiring managers may lose focus and get bored with an extremely long CV. To ensure your resume is short and sweet, summarise your experience, skills and omit any irrelevant ones. Pro tip: Keep that track & field or Taekwondo-do CCA record of the CV unless you are absolutely sure that it will get you the job.<\/p>\n Name your skills<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Lastly, list your down your past achievements. This helps the hiring manager to have a better understanding of your skill level and the great work you\u2019ve done. Provide proof such as measurable results.<\/p>\n Describe and be honest about your strengths and achievements. If you\u2019re ever unsure of what your strengths or skills are, ask the people whom you\u2019ve worked with for their opinions (you\u2019ll be surprised at the answers!). Remember not to use an excess of clich\u00e9s like \u201cteam player\u201d, \u201cself-motivated\u201d and so on, to avoid sounding too fake. Most important thing to remember – your CV is your personal marketing tool to get you the interview.
