As a recruiter, I work with clients from different industries – beauty, fashion, luxury – and connect them with potential job seekers. My main job is to get to know our clients and job seekers, and help both parties understand each other better. Even with the many job portals out there, the recruitment industry is still very necessary in matching employers with suitable employees.
This job definitely keeps me on my toes and I find myself learning new things every day.
Here are five reasons why I love my job!
1. Meet and talk to people about anything and everything
One of my favourite parts of being a recruiter is meeting people from different walks of life, almost every day. On one end, I get the chance to speak to clients from different industries and understand the type of employees they are looking for. On the other end, I get to meet different kinds of job seekers – from fresh graduates to people looking for a switch in their career path. I pretty much have a reason to ask them anything that I deem necessary for a client to know them better. Listening to their stories is always exciting and keeps my job refreshing.
2. Not desk bound
Think about your favourite café at Orchard. Imagine being able to work in that quaint environment and enjoy the mouth-watering desserts at the same time. Doesn’t that sound amazing?
Well, as a recruiter, you will be able to do so as part of your job! This job is definitely not desk-bound. On a regular basis, you will get to meet clients and candidates out of the office. Be it a café at Orchard or a restaurant at Marina Bay Sands, this job literally take you places.
3. Freedom and flexible time management
As a recruiter, I am fortunate to have a wealth of independence and freedom over my daily workload. Instead of being tied down by mundane tasks every day, I get to manage my tasks and complete them at my own time. Once I have my goals in place, I will have the flexibility in arranging client and candidates meetings to my liking.
4. A valuable stepping stone to other industries
Another exciting part of being a recruiter is that it opens up doors to different industries. Throughout my career, I have worked with clients from various industries and learnt about the ins-and-outs of these industries. Acquiring these knowledge allows me to match potential employees to the job openings that my clients are looking for. Over time, I found myself picking up in-depth industry knowledge, relevant skills and a whole network of useful contacts.
Even if you don’t see yourself staying in the recruitment industry for long, it is definitely a good place to start.
5. Highly rewarding
Lastly, being a recruiter brings me an incredible sense of fulfilment. From first meeting a candidate, to getting to know him or her through several conversations, and finally to helping them secure a new job. Seeing someone through the entire recruitment process is extremely satisfying.
Overall, my job allows me to feel recharged and emotionally fulfilled on a day-to-day basis – right now, I can’t see myself doing anything other than this.
If you’re looking to step out into the working world, or looking for a switch in career, try giving the recruitment industry a shot!
