In February’s edition of “What’s it like working as?” we speak to Reeve Lim, a sales associate in a French luxury goods company. We discussed what are the perks of being in the industry and tips for people who are interested in working in luxury retail. Read on to find out more!
Question 1: Tell us a little about yourself! And what do you work as?
Hi everyone, I’m Reeve Lim, 31 years old this year and married with 4 kids. I am currently working as a sales associate in a jewelry and watch company in Ngee Ann city boutique. I’ve been in the company for 1 and a half years!
Question 2: Share with us what goes on a typical day at work. What do you do?
Being in the sales line, we have a monthly target to achieve. Typically, there are walk-in customers to attend and regular customers that we have to update and follow up with. My daily routine also consists of inventory accountability, conducting quality checks to ensure the products are in pristine condition.
Question 3: What do you like about the luxury retail industry? Some perks on being in the industry?
Initially what attracted me to work in the luxury retail industry is the pay and my passion for luxury products. Being in this industry gives me a high stable income, as we work on basic + incentive model structure. Aside from monetary factors, i like that we get to interact with people from all over the world as the brand widely recognised worldwide.
Question 4: What is the most fulfilling thing about this job and what is your greatest takeaway from being in the luxury retail industry?
I like interacting with customers from various countries. What’s fulfilling is when you managed to build a relationship with the customers to a point where they remember you on their subsequent visit. I feel that customers play an important part in making this job fulfilling. The greatest takeaway from being in this industry is that teamwork is necessary to achieve goals.
Question 5: Any tips for someone who wants to join the luxury retail industry?
For a start, you’ll need to have a passion for the brand or luxury products. You’ll have to have a good attitude and be well groomed. Lastly, when in luxury retail, you’ll have to make your customer a priority.
